Graduate School Admission

In order to be admitted to the Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Literatures as a degree student, applicants must first be admitted by the Graduate School.  In addition, applicants must have a minimum 3.0 overall undergraduate GPA and a minimum GPA of 3.3 in Russian. Subject to departmental approval, students without the minimum GPA may be admitted provisionally as nondegree students.

Applicants granted admission as degree students must maintain a 3.3 GPA. If a student’s GPA falls below 3.3 in any given semester, his/her cumulative average by the end of the following full-time semester must be 3.3.

Students admitted provisionally must maintain a GPA of at least 3.3 in graduate work completed during each of their first two full-time semesters or they are subject to being dropped from the program. After performing satisfactorily during the probation period, students may be admitted to degree status.

GREs are not required for admission to the program, but are highly desirable and required for consideration in the financial aid competition.
