2001 Folk Festival Information

        

The Festival showcases cultural achievements of Pennsylvania's Slavic-American ethnic groups, featuring exhibits, demonstrations of folk art and live performing groups.

Saturday, April 21, 2001 (hours are 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. at the Hetzel-Robeson Center, Alumni Ballroom -- free admission)

The Saturday morning program will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon and will feature book and artifact booths, an ethnic snack bar and special events for children including a balalaika and accordion duo and a ventriloquist.

The  Saturday afternoon program will be from 1:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. and will feature the Slavjane Folk Ensemble from McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania and Kazka, a Ukrainian dance group.

The Saturday evening program will feature music for listening and dancing as well as polka and waltz contests.

Participation of the audience will be encouraged!

Sunday, April 22, 2001 (hours are 12:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Hetzel-Robeson Center, Alumni  Ballroom -- free admission)

The Sunday program will feature classical music with Galla & Dan, dance music by Zima and David Barro, folk singer.  The festival will end with the traditional Closing Ceremony.

There will be special museum exhibits and demonstrations of various folk arts throughout the Festival with Peggy and Nick Miskovsky of State College, Pennsylvania demonstrating Ukrainian Easter egg decoration.  Exhibits of Czech, Slovak, Slovenian, Polish, Croatian and Russian folk arts will be on display throughout the Festival.

Several commercial vendors and a souvenir stand will purvey various books, music, artifacts, amber and ethnic clothing items.

The Ethnic Snack Bar will serve hot foods on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  Foods featured will include soups, sandwiches and entrees.  Hot food will also be available on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.  Both hot and cold beverages and pastries will be available throughout the Festival.
